چکیده

Whenever a communication system operates in a time-frequency dispersive radio channel, the link adaptation provides a benefit in terms of any system performance metric by employing time, frequency, and, in case of multiple users, multiuser diversities. With respect to an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, link adaptation includes bit, power, and subcarrier allocations. While the well-known water-filling principle provides the optimal solution for both margin-maximization and ratemaximization problems, implementation complexity often makes difficult its application in practical systems. This paper presents a few suboptimal (low-complexity) adaptive loading algorithms for both singleand multiuser OFDM systems. We show that the single-user system performance can be improved by suitable power loading and an algorithm based on the incomplete channel state information is derived. At the same time, the power loading in a multiuser system only slightly affects performance while the initial subcarrier allocation has a rather big impact. A number of subcarrier allocation algorithms are discussed and the best one is derived on the basis of the order statistics theory.

Cross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness

This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...

Low Complexity Greedy Power Allocation Algorithm for Proportional Resource Allocation in Multi-User OFDM Systems

Multi-User Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MU-OFDM) is an efficient technique for achieving high downlink capacity in high-speed communication systems. A key issue in MU-OFDM is the allocation of the OFDM subcarriers and power to users sharing the channel. In this paper a proportional rate-adaptive resource allocation algorithm for MU-OFDM is presented. Subcarrier and power allocati...

Margin Adaptive Resource Allocation for Multi–user OFDM Systems by Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution

Like many wireless systems, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) needs proper allocation of limited resources such as total transmit power and available frequency bandwidth among the users to meet their service requirements. In this paper, different versions of two evolutionary approaches, Differential Evolution (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) have been applied for adapt...
